The Open Door Country Store is a full service Convenience Store and Fueling Station.  It is located in Wetumpka, AL at a key crossroad in the community.  The Owner helped to guide the design based upon years of experience in the retail and gas station industry.  Moreover, the design is respectful of nearby homes and avoids the look of typical chain convenient stores.  In addition, the store has become a cornerstone of the area and a key part of customer’s daily experience.

On the exterior, the main building includes a mix of board and batten siding and stone veneer.  Similarly, the neighboring residential development uses the same exterior material palette.  Also, the building is wood framed with a concrete slab foundation.  The large front porch, with metal roof and wood columns, creates a welcoming feel.  Furthermore, the front porch captures the Southern culture, which is an important part of the design.

Also, the fuel canopy includes a steel frame supporting a fire-rated pitched wood truss roof.  There are eight fueling stations under the roof.  In addition, required ventilation is provided with gable vents and a functional cupola on the roof.  The cupola is adorned with an eagle weathervane.  Overall, the roof provides additional architectural character beyond a typical flat roof fuel canopy.

Finally, the interior features sealed concrete floors, which provide a durable and rustic finish.  The pendant lighting and exposed ceiling create a dramatic first impression.  The ductwork is concealed above the walk-in coolers.  Special jet diffusers distribute air into the space.  The convenient store includes reach-in coolers, a beer cave, and ample retail shelving.  In addition, there are drink islands, including coffee, soft drinks, and slushies.  Further, a full commercial kitchen provides multiple food options, including fried chicken, tacos, pizza, and a breakfast menu.  There is space for dining tables, allowing customers to dine in.  Lastly, the cabinets feature flamed finish black granite countertops, in addition to tongue and groove wood and plastic laminate.  The various countertops provide both character and durability.
