Mortar Washed Brick Exterior with Custom Cedar Trusses

Cedar Hall Residence is a private project that created a single family home in Wetumpka, AL. The home sits on a large track of property that has been in the owner’s family for generations. Visitors approach the home through an old growth cedar tree lined road. The meandering drive joins the road and leads to the home. The owner wished to create a home worthy of the piece of property and that would be functional for many years.

Firstly, the home features four bedrooms configured around a two story living space. The large windows in the Master Bedroom provide panoramic views of the exterior. However, curtains provide privacy and block the light from flooding into the room in the mornings. The large living room contains a masonry fireplace, cedar trusses, and an iron rail balcony. In addition, the living room allows easy access between the first and second floors. Natural light enters the home from large casement windows and dormers along the roof. Also, french doors with transom windows above provide a view of the swimming pool. Further, the large island in the kitchen allows for family gatherings and is open to the rest of the home.

The rear of the home contains a veranda and a screened porch. Also, an outdoor kitchen and fireplace look over the pool and the fields beyond. Around the pool, the large deck allows for tanning and relaxing. Moreover, the exterior of the home includes cedar columns, mortar washed brick, and clad windows. Manufactured wood shingles cover the curved roof line. Copper gutters and downspouts carry the water away from the home.

Above all, the design creates a timeless home that provides each member of the family with their own space. At the same time, all family members can still stay connected in central cedar hall.
