PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Faulkner University, located in Montgomery, AL, purchased an adjacent shopping center to expand their current campus.  The University transformed the interior of a big-box department store into the new home for the College of Health Sciences.  Goodwyn Mills Cawood provided architecture services for this interior renovation project, including schematic design services for the new facade.  Upon the retirement of the project architect, Foshee Architecture was engaged to further develop the facade design.  The scope of work included construction documents and construction administration services.

The exterior design picks up on the existing architectural language of the campus.  This includes red brick, tan EIFS, large cornices, white columns, and traditional aesthetics.  The entrance is accented by a tall colonnade.  In addition, the design includes a curved front and ornamental roof balustrade.  Large curtainwall windows add character to the previously blank facade.  The windows provide natural light into the student lunge, media center, and clinic waiting area.  Also, the children’s therapy clinic includes a nes covered drop-off.  This provides shelter for loading and unloading children in inclement weather.

Finally, the existing parking lot was transformed with the addition of a landscaped concourse.  The design includes a grass lawn, planter beds, benches, and picnic tables.
